Cookie Policy
Last updated July 14, 2026
This Cookie Policy explains how Tide Research Inc (doing business as gamakura) ("we," "us," or "our") uses cookies and similar technologies, such as browser local storage, when you visit our website at gamakura.com (the "Services"). It explains what these technologies are, what we store, why we store it, and the choices you have.
This is a marketing and waitlist site while gamakura is in development, and we keep the footprint deliberately small. We use a few functional items the site needs to work, plus Google Analytics to understand how the site is used so we can improve it. We do not use advertising or cross-site ad tracking, and we do not sell your information. This policy sits alongside our Privacy Policy, which describes how we handle the personal information you choose to give us (for example, when you join the waitlist or contact us).
Questions? If you have any questions about our use of cookies or similar technologies, please contact us at legal@gamakura.com.
SUMMARY OF KEY POINTS
This summary provides the key points. You can find more detail in the sections below, or use the table of contents to jump to a topic.
Do we use cookies? Yes, a few. Two functional items your browser stores for us, and the cookies set by Google Analytics so we can measure how the site is used. Learn more about the technologies we use.
Do we use advertising or cross-site tracking? No. We use Google Analytics to measure our own site, but we run no advertising networks or social media pixels, and we do not sell or share your information with data brokers or advertisers. Learn more about third-party technologies.
What do we store, and why? The functional items remember your light or dark theme and make navigation faster. Google Analytics helps us see which pages are used and how the site performs, so we can improve it. Learn more in what technologies we use, and why.
Do you need to consent? Google Analytics is not strictly necessary, so we ask for your consent before it loads, and it runs only if you allow it. You can change your choice at any time. The functional items do not require consent. Learn more about consent.
How can you control this? You can decline or withdraw consent, and clear or block this storage at any time through your browser, with no loss of access to the site. Learn more about how to control cookies and local storage.
1. WHAT ARE COOKIES AND SIMILAR TECHNOLOGIES?
In Short: Cookies are small files a website stores on your device. "Similar technologies," such as local storage, do the same job in a different way. We use a little of both: local storage that our own site sets, and cookies set by Google Analytics where you allow it.
A cookie is a small text file that a website asks your browser to store on your device. Cookies are widely used to make websites work, to remember your preferences, and (on many sites, though not on ours) to track activity over time or across other websites.
Similar technologies achieve the same result by other means. The main one we use is local storage (sometimes called "web storage"), a small area your browser sets aside for a site to keep information on your own device. Unlike a cookie, local storage is not automatically sent to our servers with each request. It stays in your browser and is read there.
These technologies are often described using two distinctions:
- First-party vs. third-party. First-party storage is set by the site you are visiting (gamakura.com). Third-party storage is set by a different domain, often for advertising or cross-site tracking. Everything we set is first-party.
- Session vs. persistent. Session storage is cleared when you close your browser. Persistent storage remains until it expires or you clear it. The items we use are persistent, so your preferences survive between visits, but you can remove them at any time.
2. WHAT TECHNOLOGIES DO WE USE, AND WHY?
In Short: We store two small functional items in your browser, and, where you consent, Google Analytics sets its own cookies so we can measure how the site is used.
The table below lists everything the site can store on your device. The gamakura items are browser local storage; the Google Analytics items are cookies set by Google's script, and are set only after you agree to analytics.
| Name | Provider | Purpose | Category | Expiry |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| gk-theme | gamakura | Remembers whether you chose the light or dark version of the site, so it stays that way on your next visit. Written only when you use the theme toggle. | Functional | Until cleared |
| gk-consent | gamakura | Remembers your choice about Google Analytics (whether you allowed or declined it) so we can honor your decision and not ask again on every visit. Written only after you make a choice. | Functional | Until cleared |
| _ga | Google Analytics | Distinguishes one visitor from another so we can count how many people use the site and how they move through it. | Analytics | ~2 years |
| _ga_[id] | Google Analytics | Keeps analytics session state for our specific Google Analytics property (the [id] is our property identifier). | Analytics | ~2 years |
That is the complete list. If we add or remove anything, we will update this table.
3. DO WE USE THIRD-PARTY, ANALYTICS, OR ADVERTISING COOKIES?
In Short: We use Google Analytics to measure how our own site is used. We do not run advertising networks, social media pixels, or cross-site ad tracking, and we do not sell your information. We also load fonts from Google Fonts.
Google Analytics. We use Google Analytics, a web-analytics service provided by Google LLC, to understand how visitors find and use our site (for example, which pages are viewed and how the site performs) so we can improve it. Google Analytics sets the first-party cookies listed in the table above and sends information about your visit, such as your device, browser, pages viewed, and IP address, to Google, which may process it on servers in the United States and other countries. For Google Analytics 4, Google uses your IP address to estimate a general location and does not log or store the address itself. Google's handling of this information is governed by the Google Privacy Policy. We have configured Google Analytics for our own measurement only: we do not use it for advertising, and we do not permit Google to use the data collected on our site to personalize ads.
No advertising or cross-site tracking. We do not use advertising networks, remarketing, social media pixels, or any other technology designed to follow you across other websites, and we do not sell or share cookie or local-storage information with data brokers or advertisers.
Opting out of analytics. You can prevent Google Analytics from running by declining or withdrawing consent where we ask for it (see below), by installing Google's Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on, or by blocking and clearing cookies in your browser (see how to control cookies).
Fonts. To display the site's typefaces, our pages load fonts from Google Fonts (fonts.googleapis.com and fonts.gstatic.com). Google Fonts does not set cookies. However, because your browser requests the font files directly from Google, Google receives your IP address and standard request information as part of delivering them. Google's handling of that information is governed by the Google Privacy Policy. We do not use these font requests for analytics or advertising.
4. DO WE NEED YOUR CONSENT?
In Short: The functional items do not need consent. Google Analytics does, so we ask before analytics cookies are set, and you can change your choice at any time.
Under privacy laws such as the EU and UK ePrivacy rules and the GDPR, cookies and similar storage that are strictly necessary or purely functional (for example, remembering a preference you set) do not require prior consent, but analytics cookies do. We take the simple approach of asking everyone: because Google Analytics is not strictly necessary, we ask for your consent before Google Analytics loads, wherever you are located. Until you agree, Google Analytics does not run and its cookies are not set. The functional items described above are used without a consent prompt.
You can withdraw or change your consent at any time using our cookie preferences control, or by declining, blocking, or clearing cookies in your browser. Withdrawing consent stops Google Analytics from loading on future visits; to remove cookies already set, clear them using the steps in the next section.
If you are in a US state with its own privacy law, you may also have the right to opt out of certain uses of your information. Please see our Privacy Policy for those rights and how to exercise them.
5. HOW CAN YOU CONTROL COOKIES AND LOCAL STORAGE?
In Short: You can change your analytics consent, and clear or block this storage through your browser, at any time. The site keeps working either way.
You are free to change your choices and to remove or block the information stored on your device. Because none of it is used to grant you access, changing or clearing it will not lock you out of any part of the site.
- Change your consent. Where we ask for consent (for Google Analytics), you can withdraw or change it at any time through our cookie preferences control. Withdrawing consent stops Google Analytics from loading on your next visit.
- Opt out of Google Analytics. You can also install Google's Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on, which prevents Google Analytics from running on any site you visit.
- Clear it. Use your browser's "Clear browsing data" or "Clear site data" option for gamakura.com. This removes the functional items (gk-theme and gk-consent) and any Google Analytics cookies. Afterward, the site simply follows your operating system's light or dark setting again, and we will ask about analytics again on your next visit.
- Block it. Most browsers let you block cookies and site storage, either generally or per site. Their help pages explain how:
- Browser privacy signals. We do not sell your information or track you across other sites, so Global Privacy Control and Do Not Track signals have no such activity to stop. Where consent is required for analytics, we ask for it regardless of these signals.
6. WILL WE UPDATE THIS POLICY?
In Short: Yes. We will update this policy as our site changes or as the law requires, and we will revise the date at the top.
We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time, for example if we add new functionality, or to reflect changes in law or practice. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. As gamakura moves from this waitlist site toward a full product, we expect this policy to grow, and we will keep it accurate to what the site actually does. We encourage you to review it periodically.
